Alan Ribakoff represented clients in business and employment disputes law for more than 40 years before transitioning to a neutral practice. His substantive legal expertise and “hands-on” litigation experience with a wide range of legal issues have enhanced his skills as an arbitrator and enabled him to successfully resolve numerous matters which had seemed irresolvable to the parties.
Mr. Ribakoff began his legal career in 1967 at Monteleone & McRory, becoming a partner in 1970; For the next eleven years, he worked extensively on mergers and acquisitions, public stock offerings, internal management and stockholder disputes, partnership and joint venture matters, public and private construction contracts and claims, insurance and surety bond matters, bankruptcy and regulatory issues, and complex contract, fraud and breach of trust matters. In 1981, Mr. Ribakoff joined the firm of Allred, Maroko, Goldberg and Ribakoff, where he was the partner in charge of business litigation matters. He expanded his areas of practice to encompass disputes involving fiduciary duties, professional malpractice, unfair competition and all aspects of employment law including, wrongful termination, discrimination, defamation, and invasion of privacy.
Beginning in 1991, Mr. Ribakoff served as Vice President and in-house General Counsel of a group of corporations that published numerous magazines. He was responsible for overseeing all legal and regulatory matters, supervising an extensive international trademark licensing program, and handling legal issues related to the creation and operation of retail apparel stores and a franchise distribution system. Thereafter, Mr. Ribakoff continued to perform his previous in-house duties as outside General Counsel and was extensively involved in the negotiation and sale of the entire publishing group, as well as representing numerous other business clients.
Mr. Ribakoff became a full-time neutral in 2000, joining the American Arbitration Association as a member of the Commercial and Employment panels. He has handled many diverse arbitral matters, resulting in awards ranging from employment disputes to unfair competition.
